Today's Repair: Crompton Crompack 5ft Swith Start

Repaired this today. The original Crompton/Philips block ballast had burned out, and I mean burned out, literally looked like it'd been on fire & it smelled horrendous.

I stripped it down and washed the casing with hot soapy water, sanded down the internal paint around the ballast that had blistered and repainted, lastly I cleaned the lamp holders, end caps etc in the sink.

Threw it all back together with mostly new cable and the May & Christe ballast you can see here and it's good as new, apart from darkened paint externally around the ballast which can be seen here.

After all this it still has a slight smell of burned ballast, no idea when/if it'll wear off?
