Hybrid hot and cold cathode neon electrodes
Got 4 of these very old neon electrodes, going to be very interesting to try them out i think. They are meant to be used so the hollow metal shell takes the brunt of the ions with the filament making it behave like a fluorescent lamp. Its supposed to make it last a long time, and also if the thing goes eol, it can be run as a normal cold cathode tube and possibly do another 80k hours.

very cool find! I remember reading a little about these somewhere so its cool to see an actual picture of one, Id love to know what their exact specifications where, I know some NSTs/Neon signs can go up to 120Ma which is in to hot cathode range, but these cathodes look beefier than that, so I wonder what their current is etc, I also wonder how they handled cathode activation, perhaps James could shed some technical details on these? Smile
