Yeh the insulation is crumbling off so very unsafe. It also needed a new qs transformer at one point and the connections need tidying up a bit

this fitting is an Atlas Atlantic 2 version, 1961 to 1965 vintage

1961 sounds right, The capacitor had 1961 printed on it.

It's great to see one of these again after 21 years, they were the original lighting used at the college I attended in the early 90s, but were gradually being replaced by GEC Speedpacks as part of refurbishment. The building was from the late 60s.

I can't see why the insulation would crumble off? Confused We have seen much older fittings on here where it is still good!

I dont know why, the wire was all sticky and it came off on my fingers.
