These don't like damp conditions at all - the ballast's corrode and puff up, splitting apart at the laminations. To be fair, Philips could have done a better job with the paint on these. Kev, remember Penhale?

I have a Tridonic 8w ballast that was submerged for a while and it still works fine!

Yea, some you get lucky with, others not so much. Depends how bad the corrosion gets. The ones above that I saw at Penhale had properly corroded (despite being inside fittings) and had puffed up so much, they'd totally split apart. No saving those!
