Can honestly say that I have never even given a thought to tungsten being used for road sign lighting, though even well into the 80s there were tungsten lights for shop and pub signs. 2D and SL lamps had started to take over by the mid 80s.

I should imagine they needed pretty regularly relamping! A sign lamp used for sign lighting!

Awesome, never knew this sort of sign lighting existed, thought it only really came about with fluorescent. I guess most of these have long since rusted away though.
