Fluorescent light fitting in the motor/plant car of the Advanced passenger train
|
This is a 2ft 20w fluorescent light in the motor car of the Advanced Passenger Train (APT) at Crewe heritage railway centre. The adjacent metal box contains a Smart and Brown ballast that operates from 110v dc. APT was a British Rail project during the 1970s- early 80s to develop a tilting passenger train. Sadly it never made it past the prototype, even though many of the early problems had been solved. The project was abandoned in the mid 80s and it is now a static exhibit at Crewe.
