Tray rebuild, (but with a fault)! Back in January this year I rebuilt my twin 70 watt tray, complete with separate gear switches, but long story short, the Philips ballast I suspect had a fault? Seen here running twin Slovakian, Osram SON-E, (both new), but the Philips ballast was running one lamp at 104 volts, and both the capacitor and ignitor were getting warm! I’ve now swapped the Philips with a Parmar.

Interesting to see that VS choke actually marked for 240v. Most of the ones I see are 230 which might explain why they run so goddamn hot!

I also think my clamp meter is on its way out now too? Explain this, if you measure the lamp feed directly from the L on the ignitor I get 1.4 amp!, yet if you measure the same wire after the connection block, (to the lamp holder), it’s 0.9 amp!?!?! Also why was the PFC on the Philips side getting warm!, I’ve NEVER had a PFC run warm on any lamp in the 40 odd years I’ve been running discharge lamps!

Probably be the magnetic field of the chokes putting it off. I always measure away from them tbh, especially the bigger ones!

No I think my meter is f*****!, I’m getting all different reading from different points on the gear, both in voltage and amps! Got two Philips lamps in at the minute, ones running at 87 arc volts, the other at 115!, granted one of them is heavy used, but the so called (good) one is still getting the PFC warm!
