If. 642 was a colour for a fluorescent tube would they both be the same colour lit?

I've often wondered this, various MH lamps sharing colour codes with fluorescent such as 830, though in some cases the colours seem quite different.

Well different brands of 4000k halides often have quite different colour casts to them depend on the chemistry.

Yeah that's true, very noticable with Osram and the yellowish hue some of their 4000K's have. Ceramic halides in /942 all seem fairly similar across the brands though.
