Blooma Komet, lit after conversion.
I completed this conversion seven years ago now, but its one that's always stuck with me considering its large size and what it originally was intended to run. Bought as a 60w GLS bulkhead, I saw potential to convert it to something more befitting for its size. I already had a spare ballast lying around, and buying in the correct lamp connector with built in starter socket, this conversion was completed rather quickly. Now sporting a 22w circline lamp, the fitting looks absolutely incredible when lit, there is absolutely no dark patches cast from the plastic shield, and the fitting runs very cool too.

My wiring here is salvaged wiring from scrap lanterns and fluorescent fittings, with fibre heat proof sleeving to protect the rather exposed wires from the heat and UV of the lamp. Hopefully this will add years of trouble free service to it. It took ages to properly centralise the lamp, something that is rather essential with these.

Neat work, those little G10q T5 circlines are bright little lamps, especially in 840!

IMO this looks better than 60W GLS incandescent - the shape and design just suits it better

Circular T5 lamps are very hard to find these days. And how it runs on switch start ballast?
My mother had a 32W T5 circular lamps for her ceiling fixture at her bathroom, and it was very hard to find one with 6500K colour at eBay.

Indeed, they were never hugely common in my experience and have become even less so now. The 2GX13 capped ones have become very expensive now too.
