Sylvania HSL-T Clear Tubular 400W Mercury vapour modern MB/U lamp

like andy and a few other collectors I managed to nab me one of these curious lamps when a seller was listing a whole bunch on ebay :)

they are a very interesting lamp and I am very pleased to have grabbed one for the collection! its still weird seeing a mercury arc tube in a metal halide outer bulb! it also bugs me that said arc tube is not mounted centrally within the bulge LOL but of course im still very happy to have one in the collection :)

this is actually my first tubular MB/U lamp! I would love to acquire a vintage example someday :)

while taking the photos of this lamp I noticed just above the etch in the top right photo, you can see some blue paint on the frame, I wonder what thats about? is it simply a production line marker of some kind or is it a getter or such?

I also wonder did Sylvania make 250W versions, or was the small demand only for the 400W size?

theres nothing is quite like the arc stream of a high pressure discharge lamp :)

How long did you wait for this, as I bought one back in the 5th Jan and am still waiting for delivery

thats odd! mine was dispatched and arrived very quickly, it was delivered by Royal mail, which I have heard are having a hard time currently in some areas however, so hopefully thats just the case and you get yours soon Smile

but it might be worth poking the seller to see if you can get any sort of tracking number?

Mine took ages to arrive. The seller packed them so tightly that the packaging was completely squashed. Neutral

Yes, there is a issue with my mail due to the Covid restrictions, what I shall do is wait a few more days, if they fail to turn up I shall ask for tracking details if the seller has it, if all else fails get them to open a case withthe postal service.

I got my 2 a few days ago. Was pretty quick tbh. What restrictions to your post do you mean? The service near me has been the same through all the lockdowns tbh.

Yep my usual Postman is self isolating, there is a new postman but he gets lost in my area as we havr three houses with the same number on the same block, some cases we have been waiting weeks for post to arrive. other times we are getting each others mail.
