Simplex 70w SON Bulkhead - Innards

A recent acquisition, this rather nice Simplex 70w SON bulkhead. Three of the case screws were seized solid which I had to drill out, once I got it open I found it had a hammered 70w Crompton SON-T fitted dated 2001, I very much doubt it's been in use all that time though. Of course it works fine after fitting a new lamp.

Yeah I don't know who makes them, but I've seen these circular ballasts before in Holophane 80w MV bulkheads

Toroid core - Nice ! But how did they get a gap in this one ??? (all magnetic ballasts have an essential air gap in the core)
