Unknown Emg 8W Fitting
Picked this up for a quid in a charity shop.
It puts the word bulk in bulkhead!
Unused, no holes drilled for wires.
Drop it in a pool and it wouldn't know what happened to it.
Has battery backup that despite being unused hasn't seemed to have aged well.

I'm sure you've all noticed how lonely that T5/8W/640 looks in there next to those bare tube socket holes.
I think something needs to be done about that!

I was thinking as you can pick up 12V 8W fittings pretty easily of making this a 3x8W battery powered fitting.
Doing this would be fully reversible and mean I wouldn't have to drill anything and keep it in near NOS condition.
What would you all do with it?
If I remember correctly someone else on here had one like it.

Is there any labels on the case? Since most emergency lights looks the same I'm not sure. My best guess would be BLE as the case looks similar if it says B1L on the model than it most likely is.. I'm not sure if it could be JSB.

12v 8w caravan/motorhome type fittings usually have terrible gear in them which underdrive tubes and do not preheat the cathodes or heat them (enough) during operation, meaning tubes sock-up quickly & don't last long. Best avoided.

Throw a 13w mag ballast in there with a couple of series starters

What Fluorescent said. Ditched the 12v 8w fluorescents from the back of my van as I was having to re-lamp them every other week. Converted loads of these with the addition of msg gear, make decent bulkhead lights.

Would be fun to have two white 8w lamps and one red lamp on its own circuit for “action stations” Very Happy

Oh and that looks very much like a 90's Tamlite fitting to me....
