Dubious-looking Anion "Air Purification" CFL lamp
Having spotted one of these for sale on Ebay recently, I decided to grab it - more for its odd novelty value than anything else, and the fact these have a nice chunky base, visually cloned from those old early 1990s Mazda/GE CFLs. Supposedly this lamp promotes all kinds of environmental and health benefits, but it all seems like a load of quackery. Unusually though, it has this little brush-like thing protruding from the centre of the lamp, whether it really does anything is anyone's guess.

Looks like a scam. The lamp is coated with a phosphor.

The air purification is not done by UV from the tube. There is a small carbon brush sticking between the tube folds from the ballast case. That is connected to a HV DC supply. It ionizes the contaminants in the air and makes them stick to the walls of the room instead of lingering in the air. It can be fairly effective if the voltage supplied to it is high enough

An interesting lamp nonetheless, especially considering it is 840 rather than the usual warm white Smile @Lightbulbfun, same! I always wondered what those black based CFL's he had were!

Oh, that'll be where I've seen them before then lol! I had a vague memory of seeing some of these online, and now you mention it it was almost certainly in Photonicinduction's videos. Quality stuff! Laughing
