My latest EPSON printer which has a scanner on top still uses a ccfl

Most current multifunction printers, uses CIS sensor for the scanner, which relies on an RGB LED bar, like my Brother MFC-J4340DW. You printer probably still uses a CCD sensor for the scanner. And as CCFLs with mercury vapour takes a while to run-up, it can't be ON only during the scanning but also when not in use.

Also: The former copier also had LED lighting for the scanner.
