Halogen mercury lamp full power

Here's the lamp at full brightness. Now the mercury is very dominant, but the halogen still provides enough light for colour rendering. The combined colour temperature is between 4000 and 5000K. My energy monitor showed that at 241V, the lamp pulled 291W and 1.26A with a power factor of 0.96. Which makes me question whether it is truly a 250w lamp. On the whole, I'm rather impressed with these lamps. I wouldn't want to test them in actual street lighting, but as a novelty I quite like them.

Short life span be why it was never popular?

Possibly. Not ran one to destruction. Could also be no reputable brands make them

Mine ran bang on 250w at 230v iirc.

Combining a mercury arc tube and a halogen lamp in series in the same outerbulb, is very expensive.

Interesting, must be the higher voltage that gives it more beans. I don't have a vairiac so I can't drop it down.

Great photo of this lamp with the reflections. Cool

Cheers Andy. Bit of blind luck with the mains flicker but that's why you take multiple photos Laughing

Now here's something you wouldn't see in street lighting often Cool, maybe in a quiet Spanish town somewhere?
