You can let them off for looking rough as they are probably 30+ years old! The original wiring in these don't like HV pulses, you'd need to re-wire it to run discharge.

Yeah. Is probably re wire it in Arctic blue. Strip the outer rubber off and use the insides of the cable it'll be mint then

Yep still see these in the odd church we actually have a couple on fire stations and there were a couple on a big old mansion house I used to look after until last year! Superb quality much better than the cheap crap thorn were producing up until a couple years ago although the ODW was a good flood!

I've seen quite a few of these being used indoors mounted upside down or sideways and being used as uplighters/ wall washers.

I remember someone powering one of these up that had been sat in his garage covered in dust and dead spiders and it emitting a big plume of smoke! I was quite worried at first having seen some of this guys appalling electrical work. He had to fix communication lines any way he could in WW2 and carried on these practices on mains installations all his life after.
