Thorn Vivatronic Conversion
A year or so ago I whacked up this cheap Kanlux twin 36w Cat2 fitting in my hangout room. As the stock control gear looked of questionable quality, I decided to re-wire and rip the gear out and fit Thorn G69545.4 36/40w chokes and some G69577.4 Vivatronic starters.

Edit: now fitted with GV LG 16/21-58 units that give a slightly longer and more gentle preheat.

Gives a nice rumble when you turn the power on!

Nicely done, so these Vivatronic were like the early electronic starters?

The early ones started with a nice rumble where as the later type were more like pulse starters!

Does it start like a Rapid-start or SRS? or have its own unique way?
Oh, and nice clean wiring job!

Detailed info into the operation can be found on page 21 (PDF page 23) of the 1983 Thorn Lighting Journal which can be found on James' Lamptech site here.

Well I just popped out for a few hours and found one of the lamps out when I returned. One of the lampholders looked like it had been arcing and melted. Good job I have a few spares lol.
