Thorn Gamma 6 18w SOX conversion: before & after.
My patio Gamma 6 gets yet another lamp & gear change... :)

This Thorn Gamma 6 started out in life as an 80w MBF version until it was removed from service and I got hold of it.
I have ran it on my patio for a few years now and it first ran a 35w CDM-T lamp & Tridonic mag gear before I swapped it out and ran a 50w MBF lamp with a Philips 50/80w ballast.

I've decided I fancy a change and have whacked in a Parmar 18w SOX ballast ( check out the size!) and an Osram 18w SOX lamp.
I wonder if anybody will notice... :)

The diffraction ring isn't original, it was provided by Johhny M for when I ran it with a CDM-T and left it in when it went back to MBF.

Yeah, it will stand out a tad! Very Happy , going from 3850K, right down to 1800K!!, that choke fits perfect in there, and an 18 will look a bit better than the 35s they usually cram in these! Cool

I did have to saw a bit off the ballast mounting plate. If you look at the other photo of it you can see the rear of it is rather long. I've just watched this run-up for the first time, I've got a 20 lux cell on it so by the time it was at full power it was almost dark. Fills the conservatory with a warm glow!

Nice, I bet you sat there for a while, as new SOX 18s take an age to run up on their first run!

Pity a SOX won`t give you that slight afterglow that MBF give you. Cool
