Old Photo: Outdoor light Mk1
This is the first proper dusk-dawn setup I ran for the back garden.

Started out in life as a Trac Pro flood for 80w MBF lamps but I soon had my way with it.
I stripped out the mercury gear and fitted a Tridonic PCI 35/70 PRO electronic ballast along with a G12 lampholder.
Control was provided by a Royce-Thompson P12RE mini photocell which can be seen on the side of the fitting.
I used a 35w Philips lamp in colour 942.

Ran for a while but when I got the Gamma 6 up and running, I fitted a 70w lamp and used it only when more light was needed outside.
I later scrapped this fitting and fitted a cheap Chinese ripoff 150w RX7 flood.

Proper own conversion Cool , notice how manufacturers don`t do this, imagine how they would sell if you could get a 35watt halide version `off shelf`?

I really like this conversion. Shame you no longer have it. I have the same 80w MBF fitting but it is not installed anywhere yet.

Shame you scrapped it it looks like it was a quality fitting

Yes, I actually quite like these floods as since it's all GRP there is no paint to flake off or go rusty. At the time when I took it down I was short for space so binned the empty shell. I may see if I can pick up another one sometime. The first mod would be to drill out the holes for the cover and add some threaded brass inserts and cap screws instead of those nasty self-tappers that it comes with!

Don't even know if these are still available?

Trac went under iirc. Still a few people selling the 70w SON and CFL versions though.

I quite liked these floods, just a shame that the lamp holders were plastic and broke easy.

I got the exact fixture as brand new, now what you said for these being for 80W MV explains why there was a sticker saying (use only SON lamps with internal ignitor) well perhaps I wanna run my 80W MV bulbs in it

I bought another one of these a while ago fitted with a PL-T lamp. Might get it out and convert it to something like 50w SDW-T or something lol
