Thorn Gamma 6 18w SOX: One year on.
Been up for exactly one year now on a 35 lux cell.
Lamp doesn't look too bad. The electrodes were already blackened when it went in brand new!
No sign of any sodium loss to the outer envelope anyway.

Looks really good that. Hopefully if it was gonna blacken it would of done it by now. My 18w SOX lamp in my fitting is cap up too and oddly it went dim but was still warming up yellow. I took it out, shifted the sodium around a bit and it seems fine now.

Yes after 4000 hours you would start to see it going `dusky`!, lets hop its a decent batch?

Luck of the draw with 18W SOX!

I know it's a bit late now but I have no idea why I didn't wire-in one of those cheap hour meters from RS components! Maybe I will on the next lamp.

Is it on all night?, if so you don`t need an hour meter, (unless you want to know its exact running hours), the street lighting standard is 4000 hours a year, (taking in to account of the shorter hours in summer, and longer in winter), but an hour meter would be interesting to fit!, I`ve thought of this before, but you can`t zero them on re-lamp, (unless you have a digital one)?

This was what I had in mind which is resettable.http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/hour-meters/8966967/ I could have it in the lantern base or in the box at the bottom of the pole. I have 4 core cable going into the lantern that brings down the switched live from the photocell so I can use it for Xmas lights Smile

Yeah this one would be ideal, can you actually order from RS on line?, RS has always been one of those companies that won`t entertain the `consumer`, rather aways pointing out their a `business to business` only supplier???
FrontSideBus   [04 Mar, 2017 at 06:12 PM]
Never had a problem tbh! RS is my one-stop-shop for electrical stuff. Bit pricey but good gear and quick postage.

Dosen`t look like they sell SOX anymore?
