I guess you can check with a noncontact voltage tester if they get power & lamps EOL or no power. If by any chance the ballast inside is not Earthed, the tester would have reliable detection on the lantern body from outside

Definitely the wrong way up! Probably installed by one of the muppets who manages to install Sonpacks the wrong way up too.......
