These are such a sleek design, a shame they weren't more widespread really

A UK cobrahead really. Yes they are one of the best looking modern lanterns out there. I recon with a frosted bowl, it would have made an awesome LED lantern too.

Exactly a UK cobrahead! Yes I think they could have modded these for LED, plenty of aluminium there for heat sinking and for the lower wattage ones even using a SON LED filament lamps would look good!

Cornwall was full of these up until a couple of years ago!

Probably the ONLY decent looking lantern Urbis makes! Very Happy

I was a big fan of the smaller version of these. The bigger model not so much.

I think these may actually be the smallest? I only remember seeing an Evolo 2 (for up to 150W SON) and an Evolo 3 (for up to 400W SON), but never an Evolo 1.
The Sapphire 1 is quite a neat & compact little low wattage lantern though the 2 & 3 are not as sleek as the Evolo.

Yes this is the smallest version. The catalogue only states Evolo 2 and Evolo 3. The same for Altra 2 and Altra 3. No Altra 1 or Evolo 1. Perhaps they were the prototypes, who knows? I have a Sapphire 1 as well, it has the same optic as this Evolo. They're good lanterns, but look a bit like an armadillo!

It would have been cool to see an Evolo 1 had one ever been produced. I guess it would have been for the low wattage lamps maybe only 45/60W cosmo/50/70W SON etc. as the Sapphire 1 is. I have a SON and a cosmo sapphire 1, both are nice and compact and have pretty good optics to be fair!

The Evolo 2 takes care of the small power lamps too. SON 50 - 150, CPO all powers, CDM, even PL-T. So I guess there wasn't a need for a smaller lantern.
Beta 5   [13 Apr, 2026 at 10:22 PM]
Yeah I guess they considered it small enough to cater for those lamps and not need a little one, much like the Arc 80 and 90, it is a similar size to an Arc 80 so I imagine the Evolo 3 is similar to the Arc 90.
