Impressive it still fires. Fancy electronic gear has this nasty habit of wanting to protect itself from an ageing lamp, but a bit of good old brute force form copper gear does the trick nicely!

SON always had the best way of telling us they've finished their duty Very Happy, but hats off to GE for this superb longevity!, and still it soldiers on! Cool

Doesn't cycle a bit, it has 'drop outs', where it will dim down momentary but then comes back up. It runs bloody hot though Shocked

Definitely ignitor firing at each 0V of the half cycle to prevent the lamp from extinguishing. This can sometimes happens even with regular ignitors.
Which ignitor you use for this lamp?

So it isn't an anti-cycle ignitor, and made by Thorn rather than Sabir, like the Thorn APU and Super APU ones. Still this phenomenon can occur even with a regular ignitors.

the only thing that makes "anti cycle" ignitors special is some logic that tells it to not ignite when conditions are met. Otherwise they are not that different... Hey. Eltam's EHID ballasts do that too and they are electronic ballasts, although the ignitor in them is probably just an embedded ordinary "magnetic" ignitor

Indeed, as far as I was aware, anti cycle ignitors simply give up trying to start the lamp when it detects it has cycled a couple of times.
