Philips 55 watt SOX
Although this lamp looks rough, its brand fire new!, I bought it along with 3, 90 watt SOX, I didn't really want it at the time!, but so glad I took it too!, this is how the tube came out of Hamilton!, there sodium very close to the cathodes, so it needs many hours of run to sweeten it up!

That does look a bit messy! I usually run them in a post top cap up for a while when they are like this

It should clear just make sure you tap the sodium down the tube cap up when it’s about this sort of warmed up stage

It's been running for well over 12 hours now and I think the natural convection currents in the discharge have generally moved it away as that blob is not longer there Cool, I totally get the gentle bump with the lamp cap up, and running it cap up for a few hours, but that is a bit of a no no with me, I tend to never disturb a lamp while still hot as I once destroyed a valuable Osram NAV super doing this when I was 19, it resulted in tiny micro fractures in the PCA which failed days after, I remember foolishly shaking the hot lamp, disturbing the amalgam inside it, I reckon that this was the cause of the damage? I prefer to let the lamp 'sort itself', as I remember James saying that sodium will migrate on its own inside SOX tubes Cool
