Thorn EMI 1000W MBF/U kolorlux Mercury Lamp shown here at full Power it was very very bright :) (and kicked off a good bit of heat too) I had my aperture closed all the way down to take this shot, in real life the colour as a nice bright paper white colour (and made everything in the room fluoresce too I imagine it kicks out a fair bit of UV-A/UV-B!)
