Philips 6.3v 17w reflector lamp for industrial uses

Here's a very unusual lamp - found recently on Ebay being sold by a seller who deals in spares for aircraft! I wonder what type of application this would have been used for, given its very unusual voltage and wattage. (Edit: these lamps were used in industrial sewing machines, amongst other things.)
