Halogen ballasted mercury lamp

Here is a lamp claiming to be a self ballasted metal halide lamp. However, seemingly no halide salts are in the arc tube, making it a pure mercury discharge. What's also unusual is that the lamp uses a halogen capsule to ballast the arc tube instead of a standard open filament. It's typical Chinese quality, but quirky enough for me to want to give them a go. It looks like a 400w halogen lamp with a 125w mercury tube.

I was thinking to get one of these back in 2018 but the E40 base put me off cos I don't have an incandescent fixture that takes E40 - had it been E27 or even better B22 I'd have gotten one already. Still I'm glad to know you got some and despite it being pure SBMV than metal halide, that is a bonus

I just bypassed the gear in one of my lanterns. I'm sure an E27 or B22 to E40 socket adapter can be fund or made if you still want to try one. Or just stick an E40 socket on a plank of wood for a display board.
