Bottled Lightning
Had this lamp out while I was tidying the drawer it lives in, so would have been rude not to give it a run.

Shame that no camera can ever truly seem to capture the colour of the discharge from an MA lamp. I've done my best to correct it in post processing. It really does look like someone has trapped a bolt of lightning in a bottle though... imagine it must have honestly seemed like that back in the 1930s...

That's a lovely lamp and flood light too. When you say the lamp ws rebuilt into a new outer, how exactly was this achieved?

This lamp was originally tracked down by James with a cracked outer bulb. Obviously he had access to the tools necessary to pop it into a new outer, allowing it to be resurrected as a functional display piece rather than just something inert to sit on a shelf. Being able to see an MA lamp working is more valuable in my view than originality. Undoubtedly the last MA lamp to have ever been attached to the lamp building kit there I would think!

What a showpiece that is! What's in the outer shell area? Any gas mix/pressure inside?

Excellent to see this back in service again! The new outer bulb is filled with pure nitrogen at about 700mBar pressure, similar to what it would have originally had.
