Recessed mercury bulkheads On either side of the main entrance to the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral are these two recessed bulkheads. This was the first time I've seen them lit and I always assumed they were fluorescent but the are actually MBF! Interesting choice...

Would make sense to have twin lamps in a fitting like this but there is no visible sign of any gear or holders on that side unless they were removed at some point...

Is a gear change possible, It certainly doesn't look designed for one lamp like this? Looks like it was originally for fluorescent or at least twin MBF.

Twin 40w? Did they ever make a 40w merc - I've never seen one. Twin 50w maybe? Laughing Laughing

Twin 40w 2ft fluorescents series on an 80w ballast... maybe they couldn’t get hold of the lamps and instead of re-gearing it for twin 20w fluorescent (as I would have done), they instead decided to run a single 80w MBF on the existing gear! I didn’t think of that Kev!

I have one of those iwasaki moon light 40W merc Lamps. And that was my first thought when I seen this 2X2’ 40W
