I wonder if Philips ever realised if, when used with a outdoor loom lamp holder, the SL was fully waterproof?

indeed they did! Philips made an outdoor fixture for the first gen SL18 lamp that fully sealed the lamp (as the join from the plastic to the glass is only clipped in so not water tight) with the prismatic glass acting as the "bowl" for the fixture Smile
