Fluorescent Yard Lighting #2
These were actually meant as a desk lights. (they were something I picked up years ago at either fleamarket or garage sale)

I put up 4 of these as extra lighting on the deck (only light there is a 60w incandescent, which in most cases is fine), they're only used occasionally, it was done in part for extra light when needed, and in part just to get the extra fittings that were sitting around un-used out of the way

Were all originally F40T12/magnetic RS, but I converted to F32T8 HF (and using 2-lamp ballasts wired for overdrive). Sure makes it nice & bright when needed :)

How do they handle those cold winter nights?

I just installed this particular setup this summer, so I don't know for sure, but they are instant-start and should do fine (will be dim ofcourse til they warm up, it doesn't show but there is a clear cover over the lamp). If it gets down really cold - say something like -15F/-26C they might not start...but I wouldn't be outside anyway LOL
