Looks like something to do with audio? What does it do?

yes its a LM380 btl amp, around 8w rms into 4ohms. sounds quite nice. i know kev has a soldering iron and others have mentioned too! its running at 18v

Reminds me of those mini Lepai amps. They were pretty descent those things! Paired with some cheap wall speakers and it makes a descent little audio setup.

i have added heatsinks to the ic's, just onto with tyrap and heatsink compound. off the topic, but not put my foot in it. ill post some more lamp pictures tomorrow. the best amps are audiolab?

the reason i logged on a miniute ago is this. spot the ultrabright red led in the photo. running at low power. this is the purpose of leds has been for years - THEY ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR LIGHTING OF ANY SORT dispite what the eu and every company would like to to believe. if you asked me 15 years ago what leds were for this would be it. LOL

Get rid of the IC's and get valves on the go Cool

Agreed, this is what LED's should be used for - low-power indicators on stuff like this, EM light charge indicators, etc.

I agree with that. LEDs were great for indicator lights (if driven properly). They seemed to last forever.

LEDs are getting better in lighting but there is still far too many that are getting poor lifetime. Some aren't too bad but seen plenty of quality fittings ripped out for LED then failing just months later. Can think of many just from the top of my head; the 400w Thorn flood lights at the church ripped out for LED, they are now on their second lot of LED flood lights and only 2 work out of about 5. Another... a car park I know got rid of their Menvier 2D bulkheads. The new LED Tamlite ones were failing just 9 months later.

Been toying with building a little single-ended class A headphone amp tbh.

i have tried valve amps in the past and they sounded good p-p el34 class a/ab. mullard el34s cost a fortune, only about 35-40w though, and tbh the 8000ms i have now run rings round anything valve that i have had. do a search for vr70e on google
thorncollector   [02 Jun, 2020 at 06:58 PM]
valve or transistor?

You won't get much power into a 'speaker with those batteries, though.
