Made in the days you could easily stick your fingers in the lampholder and get a belt. More modern versions obviously had safety devices which cut the power to the lampholders when the lamp was removed. These however were not that reliable and it was usually the safety device that failed, often arcing out and melting.

I think people had more common sense back in the day although I have heard stories of curious people getting a belt lol

No such thing these days as common sense it seems.....

Its not about the lamp holder (you can stick a finger in an E27 too...) but about the lamp cap being completely in the open when the other lamp end is inserted. Sorta like the same issue as with LED tubes..

I think it isn't about lack of common sense as much, but about legislator's knee jerk reactions to one-off events of people actually doing something stupid, no matter how rare that actually have been and or how much stupidity had been involved

There is always the case with kids doing things because they dont know it yet, not because they are actually stupid.... Though i find it hard to imagine that a quick shock from a lamp holder (where there isn't anything you could grab and stay stuck to) would result in a very significant injury

That is, except where the event includes also falling off a ladder. But then kids of the age that dont know about electricity dont yet climb on ladders to get to it either, so that would really only leave the grown up idiots
