One start only!
Starting tonight at 8:57 pm, this lamp is only going to have one start, it will run 24/7 from now on to see if it STILL goes black, and how long SOX lasts with one ignition if it doesn’t go black!
Let the test commence!

Would be interesting also to try with a metallised reflector (or even a mesh around the lamp), which is connected to the line voltage through a 2x..3x voltage multiplier, in the polarity which deflects the Na ions (which i dont know which it is)

Yeah that would be an interesting test, but every fitting I’ve used these in naturally had a support, that was connected to earth, (not intentionally but as just part of the fixture), but with nothing in contact with the outer glass, it will say once and for all whether the batch was bad?

This is a very interesting experiment. I guess we will have covered all avenues !

A proper test!

That is one bright mofo night light Laughing

TBH it’s not as bad as I thought it would be, there’s usually only a 2 watt LED in here just for low level illumination at night, oddly enough though, I’ve had this night light here since October 08, and did once think of SOX as a night light, but as I was using them outside I decided against it so as to not over use the lamps!

Heh, 18w SOX does a good job of lighting up mine and next doors garden lol. I was thinking of doing a BigClive and hacking a cheapo LED lamp with a different capacitor to bring it down to something silly like half a watt for a 24/7 light in the hallway.

The standard 2 watts do a good job of night lighting Cool

For really silly light levels just use the indicator unit from an industrial control switch

Well we’re at the first 1200 hours uninterrupted running on this today, and this is looking flawless!, discharge tube is spotlessly clean and there’s no signs of blackening on the IR coating yet!

That must look really strange, got a pic of the area lit up by it? Be interesting to see how it looks lit up yellow lol.

Only the landing floor and a cat litter tray!, not really photo worthy Laughing, although you can see all down the stairs and the hallway at night!
