Restored & re-purposed Advanced passenger train power car lights
|
Here are two of the fluorescent lights from that were removed from the power car of the advanced passenger train which is now an exhibit at Crewe heritage centre. I've restored them and re-purposed them as lights for the desk I use when working from home. They have been re-painted in Silver and black to match the colour scheme for the rest of the room and are suspended using a cable kit that was bought from Amazon and advertised as being for LEDs. The ballast is in a black project box on the middle with a neon switch. The box is bigger than I wanted but the next size down would have been too small. I went for an electronic ballast as these were originally used with an electronic inverter during their previous life on the train. Apart from that am very pleased with the results, both with the way they look and the light that they produce. A nice bright light where it's needed but does not dazzle. Just wish I'd had these at the start of the winter. I've not quite finished the installation yet, they will be wired into a couple of ceiling roses which of course involves lifting floorboards in the room above which is always a pain
