Osram Powerstar 1000w HQI-T W/D
1 x 1000w Osram Powerstar quartz metal halide lamp in 7250k colour flavour.

These are really bright and have a really awesome daylight colour with very good colour rendering which does seem much more interesting than the usual 5000-6500k normally seen.

its interesting comparing it with your older example, I hope the seller lists more! id quite like to nab one myself! (like you I was put off by the first one because it looked fucked to me LOL) I have a cheap 600W Chinese "horticulture" Metal lamp that is 7200K but its colour rendering is shit, id love to see a lamp like yours with a decent CRI would look like, I also never realised that these where 7250K until recently, I just assumed they where 6500K~!

Might be worth messaging the seller since they listed another one using the same photos ect as the one Colin had. Might have more.
I'll have to do a side by side of all the kW tubulars I have.

Yes the seller has a few of these he has just listed one see HERE

I wouldn't mind one of the warm white ones. They are even brighter than these iirc!

ah awesome thank you for the heads up colin! I just nabbed it Smile well I will admit I sent the seller a cheeky best offer of £19.99, but it got instantly declined so I just said fuck it and hit buy it now, really gotta stay off the ebay after this, the 1Kw Merc and the 180W SOX ballast LOL

I know the feeling. I never really bothered with the larger lamps but since I built those gearboxes I want more things to use on them Laughing

Lol that seller certainly has an interesting eBay page. Loads of pocket watches..... and a load of 1kW halide lamps Laughing

Lovely high power MH lamp! What ballast and ignitor did you run this on?
FrontSideBus   [05 Apr, 2022 at 08:14 PM]
BSN 1000 L78 and SN79

I don't have a 1000W SON ballast, wonder if this will be happy with a 1000W MV ballast.
FrontSideBus   [06 Apr, 2022 at 01:26 PM]
Ballast might not like it much but for short runs it shouldn't do any harm?
Lightbulbfun   [06 Apr, 2022 at 01:39 PM]
another alternative is a 600W and 400W SON ballast in parallel should work pretty well by my calculations and if you have a Variac you can use it to fine tune the lamp current Smile I Have the other problem in that I have a 1000W SON Gearbox, but I dont have any 1000W Merc gear! so I have to improvise for that instead! (which I do with a 600W SON choke on its 250V tap paralleled with a 400W MB choke, which works quite nicely for 7.5A-8.25A lamps Smile )

Yes, I could try the 600W + 400W SON ballast in parallel which I have used to light 1000W SON lamps, without using a variac it over runs the lamp just slightly by 0.3A I recall.
