Phosco P178 street lantern for mercury lamps
After many years of searching I have finally found myself a P178 and crossed off a much-wanted lantern synonymous with my childhood growing up in Cambridge. My many thanks go to fellow local collector Jaye (I believe "Lampyman" here on LG). This, I believe, is quite an early design in which the lamp burns vertically instead of horizontally, and has no photocell socket (and has miraculously not been drilled for a photocell). I am very happy indeed to have finally obtained one of these!

Nice lantern ! A few years ago i found a Gaash lantern made in late 70s which is similar to an Industria 2000, the bowl is in exactly the same color as here after years of standing in the sun and running an 125. The lamp is base down, so just freely standing inside the lantern with no frame around it. There is a nice spot of soot on the canopy too
