The diffuser on one of my 8w fittings has gone really yellow, especially where the cathodes are. I doubt that fading will ever be removed fully. The best thing may be to try and compensate the yellowing with a cooler colour tube.

I've complete the restoration of this diffuser using the same technique as for yellowed car headlights and applying a UV protector. The only thing about that is that it needs to be re-applied regularly monthly. That won't happen, maybe a couple of times a year when it's removed for getting rid of the dead flies. It's not going to be doing many hours, so time will tell as to how long it lasts. Always like giving something a new lease of life rather than sending it to land fill.
