Holophane 250w MBF/U light
Last year I got this absolutely massive wellglass style light made by Holophane. I say light because it would have multiple usages, it could be used as a road light on a top entry bracket, or it could be used as an overhead light on a raised walkway, or even as a under canopy light. When I saw it at first I wasn't originally going to get it just because of its size, but then I saw it was geared for 250w MBF/U and that immediately sealed a deal. This has to be the biggest well glass I've ever seen, the glass is just stunning, its largely that what attracted me to the light.
Getting it home, I took it apart and realised the wires were asbestos, so in my usual fashion I immediately ripped them out and replaced with heat proof fibre sheathed rubber insulated wires, not original I know but more than likely age correct. I'm yet to light it, but I know with mercury it'll look stunning. I'm also tempted to put a clear MBF/U lamp in this just for a bit of variety. Restoration will see a strip down and respray to hammered silver as is standard practice for me.

Bit of a beast that. Looking forward to seeing it restored and with a clear mercury lamp in it!

Its an incredibly heavy light, as is expected by the thick glass and massive circular ballast within. Definitely a light where finding a home for it within the collection has proven difficult

Has this already got a lamp in it Dave?, or has it some form of defused inner cone?, this looks like the classic rail yard type of fitting! Cool

Its got a Wotan lamp in it currently, the glass is acid etched hence the frosted look
