Some spares...
Picked up a few of these nice Polish Philips 36w T8's while you can still get them quite cheaply from CP Lighting.

Seem to be of quite recent manufacture too.

Nice, would be interesting to see how well these do being so recently made.

There is plenty of mercury in them anyway. Can see loads of tiny droplets.

A good start then, shouldn't go mercury started!

Did you install any of these? If so, how are they doing?
FrontSideBus   [05 Apr, 2026 at 09:22 PM]
I've got 4 in use but don't really do much work.

From experience, they're not as good as the Dutch or French made tubes, but they'll certainly piss over the likes of CRAPton. Got tons of these in my container and still using them on jobs, They seem decent enough. Usual failure seems to be that they go mercury starved and untimately just light a dim pink, but you'll get some use from them first.

Sadly even modern Crompton would probably outlast these Philips Poland T8's.. When they changed from the brown etch to the Black etch the quality dropped big time and often they only lasted around 12 months..It seems they will be nice and bright one day as normal then over id say 3 days they will go dimmer and dimmer until its pink then starts flashing with clear ends and once the starter has stuck it will glow at the ends for a while before the cathode pops witch suggests to me they loose vacuum slowly whilst in service? And is seems very very common with these black etch Philips.

Maybe you've had a duff batch? The ones I've installed in various places seem to last as long as anything else modern...

@Slyspark sadly not as i've witnessed the same failure pattern whilst been away on Holiday in Skegness fluorescent's there as well as modern Philips here at home on tests and i know Pat96 and Kev has also witnessed this strange failure with the more modern philips T8's too.
