You can see the neon red glow discharge through the phosphor.

very cool to see a proper picture of one of these in operation! I have seen a few unlit pictures, but no good pictures of one lit up like this! I have the TUV version, but sadly not the TW version, would love to find one for the ocllection some day Smile I wonder if Philips ever experimented with coating one with regular fluorescent tube phosphors...
