Lamp Power Analysis Module Mk2
To measure lamp voltages and currents, I used to use a simple in-line module which went between the ballast and the lamp holder which featured tap off points for connecting up to a DMM and a simple wire loop which allowed me to connect a clamp meter and also to oscilloscope voltage and current probes.

Anyway, Dez started using one of these nice power meters to analyse the electrical characteristics of lamps and I was inspired to get my own as it does make things quite a lot more convenient and probably more accurate and it also lets you view the lamps power factor ect.

The switch behind the protective cover is to disconnect the voltage input to the meter so it doesn't get 5kV stuffed into it when using ignitor gear!
The lamp currently burning is a 400w GE CMH-T.

The internal wiring is a bit messy but it is what it is.
The nice big current transformer on the left is a primary wound type so should be more accurate than the open core types.
I'm just not sure on its rating; 3kv for one minute. Will have to see how it handles up to 5kv for very short pulses!

I'm still doing it the caveman way Razz , an energy meter and separate clamp meter!
