Philips MI26
Big thanks to Dave for this, I never actually owned one of these, and given how clean the gear is I don't think this had done many years in service before removal? I've seen these almost burnt dark brown inside the canopy, but this one is mint inside, also I like how Philips call the the 26, then proceed to fit a 35/55 watt choke to them!

The lantern came out in 1986, two years after SOX-E was introduced. I believe they marketed it as being able to run the new and super efficient 26W SOX-E lamp. And likewise the MI36 for running the new 36W SOX-E. You could get true SOX-E gear in these, I think you ordered it as the MIE26, but as most areas were still using 35W, that's the gear most had. Of course 26W runs ine on it too, so special gear was special order.

Yes that makes perfect sense when you put it that way, you're spot on too, the optimal version was the MIE-26, I was also surprised Philips offered the MI26-00 for 'loose gear'?, I'm guessing that was for remote gear mounting for those companies still running the L4045s?

Correct, early versions of the MI26 were offered as remote geared. The 80s was early enough that councils were still installing gear in base. I think the remote gear option was dropped by the 90s. Another thing is if a remote gear lantern got damaged, you could fit a remote MI and not need to rewire the column just reuse the existing gear
