They're great duty lanterns. A bit cramped inside, but if you just want a decent SOX lantern, you can't go wrong with one of these

I think the bowl clips were a better design on these than the B5?, our town was B5 dominated, but when the two new estates were built towards the Warmingham end of our town, these were the default choice for all of it, sadly they're same columns were desecrated with bloody Ampera's in the 2016 changeover

Metal clips till the end, and a better gasket, so in that respect better. But the B5 I think has 'legendary status' because it's so iconic. The B5 and MI were in close competition for most popular small SOX lantern, but for some reason the B5 is more memorable.

The B5 metal clips on the older canopies were the best, I wasn't a fan of Thorns plastic replacement!, I remember seeing a few of them break in service! But the 'spring fit' of Philips's was an excellent idea it had more surface area to hold the bowl on than Thorn had

The MI50 bowl has both metal clips fixed to the bowl, and those never come off the lantern without a deliberate act. The MI26 introduced the rear clip being separate, and those do sometimes release the bowl unintentionally. But it is still better than Thorn's plastic clip.

Good point, I did have to pinch this to tighten it up, but I think the best ever bowl clips were the wire type as used on lanterns like GECs Z9480/9530, and Thorns Alpha 5

Yes those never came undone!
