Sylvania LS200 T5 Under-shelf fittings. Plastic under-shelf luminaires for T5 lamps. These have been in use since the 15th of November 2013. They are in use practically all day being switched on in the morning and only turned off after midnight when everybody goes to bed. As a result the lamps are banding up nicely :) Got a couple each in 21w, 14w and 8w flavours to replace the nasty T4 things I had before that used proprietary sized lamps... bastards! Judging by the startup behaviour I reckon they have Philips Matchbox ballasts in them.

Had my first lamp failure today. One of the 8w fittings went out. I was beginning to wonder if they were ever going to die since they have been in use for most afternoons and evenings since 2013! The remaining lamps do look ripe. Very little actual blackening around the electrodes but there is that blue glow of an old lamp.

That's really good. I had a Sylvania from 1992 last almost 3 years in one of my 8w fittings. They are on more than 12 hours a day.

Them Sylvania are Bell made tubes and do last very well.

These Bell tubes last ages especially 24/7. I don't mind them but I have had a few that are flickery on magnetic gear.

I do quite like these fittings, they have proper revolving lampholders which doesn't feel like you are going to snap the pins off unlike the cheaper "rock-in" style.

My favourite are the standard BJB ones. They always make a good connection and are solid. The turning ones aren't really my first choice even if they are the well made ones. One of the fittings that has them is my HF Matchbox fitting. It's from 2012 and the holders are really worn out and you have to wiggle the tube a few times until it makes a good connection. My exit sign has turning ones too and one of them has already cracked and they make grinding sound when you replace the tube. I have a sign light from 1992 that has BJB ones and all 4 are fine and work perfectly.

These make really solid connections and feel just as solid as G13 ones.

I'd forgotten that I had already lost one of the 8w lamps. Well I lost another one a couple of days ago, this one had a massive sock on one end of the lamp. I've ordered some spares since I don't have many T5 lamps and they are only going to become harder to get, I'm using a Fitzgerald branded tube in the meantime and it must be a halo tube as the CRI is utter rubbish! I also broke half of one of the rotating rings getting the lamp out but it still works fine. Seems the plastic is starting to get a bit brittle from the heat, grease and cooking gasses but you can forgive that considering the age of them!

Probably ran until the cathode broke. Fitzgerald branded 8w tubes are Sylvania 3500k I believe. The covers on those style fittings aren't great. They often crack or get a bubble if the tube gets a violent EOL.

Well the plot thickens... I've just had all of the diffusers off to give them a good cleaning and I noticed that the replacement German made Sylvania 8w that I had installed last July looks just as ripe, if not more so than the 8 year old Sylvania branded BELL tube next to it! Had that look of a tube with not much longer to go... not very good for the Germans!
