Rare 1966 Philips instant start 80 watt fitting
Rare 1966 Philips instant start 80 watt fitting complete with Atlas Clipluve attachment fitted with a ATLAS pink tube

I salvaged this from a army camp dance hall about 15 years back, they all had Atlas Clipluve attachements fitted which are 1 foot segments which push over the tube, aluminium end sleeves sheild the lamp flicker each end, all these got smashed in the end as it was in a derelct building, can anyone help me find an original ATLAS PEACH tube for this fitting as they all had peach tubes in originally, its one i've never managed to obtain in over 30 years of collecting tubes and lamps

Can't be many Clipluve attachments left these days. Cracking find!

no, they go brittle as hell, i have to slide them off the end of the tube, as pulling them off as you should do pings off off the clips !

My dads office in a 1960s building had similar clip over diffusers in 1 foot sections, the fittings were something like single Thorn atlantics but I don't think they were, I'm going back to the late 1970s and I'd have been 5 years old!

God this is a bloody good find

I have only ever seen these clipluve attachements in army camps and military storage depots, i have never seen them anywhere else. I think they were discontinued around 1972

(Phil ive pm you back)Ive never seen these fittings before but does anyone remember some one finding some of these diffusersages ago? Who was it?
RobTDCI   [18 Aug, 2015 at 11:52 PM]
It was a civil service office when my dad worked as the much loved tax inspector Neutral Many of the diffusers had been removed and of course with it being so long ago, I'm not sure they were this exact design but they were certainly very similar and in short, 1 ft sections.

Yep I remember my mum used to do the cleaning in a solicitors in Truro where they had superslims with the same attachments

Instant start. Is that what they called Quick start?
lampy   [19 Aug, 2015 at 11:10 PM]
yes, that was philips wording of quickstart. Oddly, some of these fittings have Philips ballasts, some have large silver hammerite painted units made by ' control components London Ltd' not at all sure why these were in several of them
