Wow not seen sylvies with earth stripes!

They certainly are very keen to start. They strike instantly with no starter switch installed! Even 4-22w starters sometimes fail to catch them.

Let just pray we get out of Europe in June

I highly doubt it will happen. Too many vested interests and the EU wont accept it, just like they did with the Irish!

I love how lazily the starting strips have been applied, some straight over the etch! In fact the very top tube in this picture is now perfectly safe to dispose of in general waste lol

worth pointing out that these actually are TLM tubes rather then MCFA tubes, TLM tubes have 3.6V cathodes and the starter stripe is tied to one electrode by a high resistance, as *not* supposed to be grounded, in this fashion it works a lot like the starting probe does on a mercury vapour lamp Smile the resistor Sylvania use in these tubes is a bit weedy mind, not sure I would trust it with mains against it! (in terms of the physical size of the resistor, not its actual ohm rating) see here

MCFA tubes have 9V cathodes, and a starter stripe thats not connected to any electrode, and should be grounded, if you where to install an IRS/TLM type tube in an MCFA quickstart fitting, the 9V cathode heating would soon munch the 3.6V TLM tube!
