Its suprisingly bright and produces little heat and no ozone as long as the voltage across it isnt too high. The foil on the ends of the tube form a capacitor, the foil forms one plate, the glass the dielectric and the plasma itself is the other 'plate'. Essentially theres nothing to burn out in this and could last as long as an induction lamp.

Interesting! I was thinking about trying this with the arc tube from a damaged SOX lamp.
