Not original to the fixture it came in. Possibly from around 1975 as that's what the tube in the fixture dates as & could have been fitted at the same time.

Works well, nice and quiet. Multi-tapped for operation from 200-250v

I'd be careful with that white, fabric covered cable, looks like it might just be asbestos heat resistant. Hard to tell from the picture tho so I may be wrong of course.....

Got a pair of identical ballasts somewhere but they branded smart and brown.

Yes Smart & Brown is what these were branded as when sold to/used by other manufacturers ...that or it was actually a company caller Smart & Brown that made these for Thorn, I'm never quite sure lol

Smart & Brown lighting were a company acquired by Thorn Electrical Industries. They then used this brand name to supply OEM control gear to other manufacturers to use in their own fittings. All the gear originated from the Thorn production line.
