Hammered Thorn PP258 Airflow Markings

I love seeing these airflow markings in fixtures indicating the amount of use/abuse they've had! This is one of the best examples I've seen, these markings will not come off easily, this picture is AFTER I'd washed the fixture!

It's an oval lamp holder THORN PP258 from around 1990 (06/90 on the capacitor) and was clearly very well used. Whilst they did still work, I removed and skipped the SB ballasts as they'd turned golden brown and the terminals crumbled when I tried to remove the cables. Replacement ballasts have now been fitted ready for the fixture to put in 25+ more years service (hopefully!).

Yes, you can always tell the ones that have done some serious hours!

Shame these ballasts go crispy if left alone they are normally ok

In hindsight I should have cut the cables elsewhere & rejoined them using connectors or solder. Still, I don't think they would have lasted much longer & the spares I fitted are in much better condition!

Push in connectors like Helacon (Hellerman Tyton) / Wago are perfect for here
